How AI upscaling differs from resizing
Bicubic resizing invents no information — it just spreads existing pixels, which is why enlarged images look soft. A super-resolution network has learned what edges, textures and text look like at higher resolution and reconstructs them, so a 2× result keeps crisp outlines and believable detail.
What works best
Product shots, screenshots, illustrations and moderately compressed photos upscale cleanly. Extremely small (under 200 px) or heavily blurred sources produce plausible but invented detail — check faces and text closely. For portraits, the Face Restoration mode adds a dedicated face model.
Limits
Up to 5 MB and about 1000×1000 px per image in the free tier; processing runs on our servers and takes a few seconds. Higher factors (4×) are on the roadmap once GPU capacity allows.
